Kungfu Club
Wing Chun Kung Fu is a Chinese martial art that was actually developed by a woman, and can be mastered by people of all shapes and sizes. Whether you are interested in martial arts for self-defense, health, fitness or mental and/or physical discipline - our style, renowned instructor, and very active and friendly club is worth serious consideration.
The Melbourne University Kung Fu Club has been operating successfully since 1977 and we are one of the earliest and largest martial art clubs in the University of Melbourne. The school is run by Sifu Barry Pang, who has a lifetime experience in the Chinese, as well as Korean martial arts. Sifu Barry Pang is the winner of the 1996 Blitz Magazine Hall of Fame Kung Fu Tribute Award and Barry's wife, Anne also won the 1998 Blitz Magazine Woman Self Defense Instructor of the Year Award. Our classes offer a unique opportunity to train with these extraordinary people in a relaxed and vibrant yet disciplined training atmosphere. The club also offers the rare opportunity of organising Woman Self Defense courses instructed personally by Anne Pang.
For those who want more than learning a great martial art, we also have a very active social club where you can make a lot of friends, not only from Melbourne Uni but also from the 2 other universities at which we have affiliated clubs. Other activities during the term have included trivia/pizza/pub nights, movie (martial arts of course!) nights, go-carting, indoor rockclimbing, BBQs,... and lots more!
Beginners are always welcome at any time of the year, so come along and have a go!
