How to join

In just five easy steps …

Step 1
>  Are you Eligible for Student rates?

You are eligible for "UM Student" rates if you are a currently enrolled
University of Melbourne Student (upon presentation of a current student card).
University of Melbourne Staff, Alumni and others are eligible for "Non-UM Students & Others" rates.

Step 2
> Choose your Membership
Choose from one of 2 Membership Types:
1. Fitness Membership
The Fitness Membership is perfect if you like to mix up your
training and do a variety of activities and provides great value
for money. It provides:
• Unlimited use of the Strength & Fitness Gym.
• Fitness Analysis and Fitness Program.
• Unlimited access to Group Fitness classes (subject to
maximum class numbers).
• Unlimited access to the Beaurepaire 25m heated lap pool.
• Access to Member rates for all other MUS services and
facilities, such as court hire, physiotherapy and massage.
• All new patrons intending to use the Strength & Fitness
Gym must be “Authorised” - see Step 4.

2. Access Membership
If you do not want to use the gym, pool, and group fitness
facilities but are a regular user of the indoor courts, squash
and tennis courts then you can pay the Access Fee to access
Member rates for court hire, and other services. The Access
Fee is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase and is
non-transferable and non-refundable.
If you take out a Fitness Membership, proceed to Step 3a.
If you take out an Access Membership, proceed to Step 3b.


Step 3a
> Choose the duration of your Fitness Membership
Choose from the following four membership options:
12 Months: expires 12 months from date of purchase and
can be suspended without charge for a minimum of 2 weeks
and up to a maximum of 8 weeks. Includes up to 3 Exercise Re-Programs and Fitness Assessments.
9 Months: Perfectly suited for the academic year.
4 Months: Perfectly suited to cover one semester.
Monthly: A pay-as-you-go option.

Step 3b
> Access Membership
Patrons who do not have a Fitness Membership must pay the 12-Month Access Fee to access Member rates for court hire and other services and to gain access to the Sports Centre building. Otherwise, payment will be at Non-Member rates.

Step 4
> Get Authorised

All new users of the Strength & Fitness Gym must be authorised. To do this, you must book an appointment for either an Exercise Program or a Familiarisation class.

Exercise Program: for beginners to advanced - a one-on-one session with a gym instructor who will write a personalised exercise program based on your individual goals and demonstrate safe and effective exercise techniques. 12 month and 9 month Fitness Memberships include the cost of an Exercise Program.

Familiarisation Class: advanced only with more than a year’s weight training experience – the familiarisation class is designed as a brief introduction to the Strength & Fitness Gym. Clients are required to demonstrate correct and safe training techniques to the instructor. 4 month Fitness Memberships include the cost of a Familiarisation Class.

Step 5
> Choose payment method

Choose from the following options:

  • Visa
  • Mastercard
  • Cheque
  • University of Melbourne staff can salary deduct and salary package their MUS Membership.
