Blues Merchandise
A Sport Blue is the University's highest sporting award presented by the Melbourne University Sports Association to student-athletes for outstanding performances at Australian University Sport Games and Championships. Many Blues recipients have gone on to represent Australia at World Championships, Commonwealth and Olympic Games as well as national sporting leagues.
The awarding of Blues and Half Blues (awarded for sporting performances just below the standard of a Blue) is a long-standing tradition amongst Universities worldwide and originated from the first University boat race between Oxford and Cambridge Universities in 1829. The University of Melbourne was the first Australian University to award Blues to its boat (rowing) and cricket teams of 1870.
