![]() Big V Weekend Wrap 02/04/2007 By Lisa Szatsznadjer & Rod Warnecke The Melbourne University Sports Centre hosted the Round 2 double-header of the Big V season last Saturday (01/04/07). With the home court advantage, the Melbourne University men’s and women’s teams were warm favourites. Responding to the small but vocal crowd, the Division One women kicked off proceedings by collected their second win of the season against Blackburn. The men however, lost to third-placed Warragul. Having defeated Shepparton the previous week on the road, the Black Angels asserted early dominance against their opponents and went on to win comfortably - the final score being 85 – 47. Sarah Thomson directed University’s offense, scoring 19 points and shooting with an accuracy of 72%. Renee Tuck and Elizabeth Anderson followed Thomson’s lead, with 13 and 12 points respectively. Still searching for their opening win of the season, the Division Two men struggled against the higher-ranked Warragul. Playing with enthusiasm, the Black Angels game plan seemed effective in the first half, before Warragul changed gears and accelerated to victory 86 - 71. Andrew Walker was the top points scorer for University, claiming 15 points. Backing up on Sunday for their second game in as many days, the women struggled to match the pace of Werribee She Devils and were beaten 67 – 58.
