Australian Rules Football: University beat opponents black and blue.
Melbourne University was dominant in their weekend VAFA fixtures, with both Blues and Blacks recording impressive victories.

Uni Blues made reigning premiers Old Haileybury’s frightful start to season 2007 worse, handing them their third straight loss, in the form of a 92 point drubbing at Sportscover Arena on Saturday.  Jason Cordy was a focal point up forward kicking five goals for the victors, with David Paton and James Van De Pol kicking three majors each. Van De Pol was also named best on ground for the Blues. After three rounds the Blues sit in second place on VAFA’s A Section ladder, one game behind Old Brighton.

In VAFA’s B Section, the Blacks continued their undefeated run in 2007, overcoming a sluggish first half to post a 47-point victory over Old St. Kevins. Trailing by 20 points at the main break, the Blacks took the game by the scruff, tearing it apart and kicking 13 goals to two in the second half. Grant Shaw (5 goals) and Paul Kempton (4 goals), were the major goal kickers for the Blacks, with Lucas Van Kempen judged best afield. The Blacks currently sit third on the B Section ladder, trailing two other undefeated teams, Old Essendon and Marcellin, only by percentage.

Soccer: Fast starting Rangers win, as women fight back to draw.
Three first half goals saw Melbourne University Rangers jump to an unassailable lead in their round five away win against Darebin United on Saturday. Proceedings tightened in the second half, with neither team troubling the scorers, allowing Rangers to emerge comfortable 3-0 victors. In the curtain raiser, University were also able to claim a 2-1 victory over Darebin.

In women’s Premier League action, University’s women fought back from a 1 goal deficit at halftime, to draw 1–1 at home to Keilor Park. In State League One competition, University also drew 1-1 with Bayswater Strikers.
