The Mugars were dealt a serious blow this week with the Seniors losing several key players to injuries. With many of the team’s star players sidelined, the team struggled to match their season’s high standard, losing to St.Kilda 7.3 (45) to 11.3 (69). The Reserves however, had a strong win defeating their St.Kilda opponents 5.12 (42) to 1.5 (11).

Getting off to a good start, the Seniors finished the first quarter equal on the scoreboard with St.Kilda. But as the game progressed, the injury-plagued team struggled to respond to the Sharks’ attacks.  Tracey Ashley and Bron McGorlick booted two goals each for the Mugars, while Michelle Dench, Cecilia McIntosh and Niamh Moynihan kicked singles. Despite their second loss of the season, the Mugars remain firmly entrenched in second place on the ladder.

Returning from last week’s bye, the Reserves enjoyed a comfortable 31 point victory over the Sharks. Kerry Clare slotted 3 goals, whilst Kelly Ann Sleeth and Robyn McPherson both kicked goals. The Reserves are currently ranked 2nd on the ladder behind the Darebin Falcons.

On the national front, several Mugar players were selected to represent Victoria in the AFL National Championships. Cecilia McIntosh, Jess Egan, Kristen Douglas and Natalie Wood were amongst those chosen to play for the national title.
