MUBC Dominate Victorian Rowing Championships
20 February 2009; James Garland

Congratulations to the Melbourne University Boat Club who gave a stellar performance at the 2009 Victorian State Rowing Championships at Nagambie lakes in February. The Club was rewarded after exerting its dominance on Victorian rowing by winning 21 of the 31 finals it entered.

The MUBC were extremely well represented at the Championships as Beijing Olympic representative Kim Crow’s Female Open Eight took a very comfortable first place, crossing the line some 20 seconds in front of their opposition. The MUBC’s Female Eight consisted of Crow, dual Lightweight Quad Scull World Champion Alice McNamara as well as Phoebe Stanley, who narrowly missed out on Olympic selection in 2008.

The Open Eight Male and Female double was secured when the MUBC Men’s Open Eight, led by Beijing Olympic Silver medallists Cameron McKenzie-McHarg & James Marburg sneaked home in first place. The win came just three seconds in front of their competitor’s Mercantile, who were powered by Beijing Olympic Gold medallist and Melbourne University Alumnus David Crawshay.
