![]() Netball mid-season review 08/04/07 By Lisa Szatsznajder With the netball season in full swing, the University of Melbourne’s 12-team contingent is a leading force for the approaching finals: nearing the halfway post all teams are credible contenders for their respective premiership titles. In the Premier Open Division 1, Melbourne University Blues were outscored by St. Albans, 27 – 18. University are currently ranked 10th after the round 10 matches (03/04). With twelve rounds remaining, the girls still have time to push their way into the title hunt. Melbourne University Seconds were defeated by Wyndham City, 39 – 28 in the late Tuesday (03/04) night clash. Despite a determined effort, University’s attacks were thwarted by Wyndam’s well drilled defense. In a dramatic last minute point, University 2 snatched the win from the grasp of bitter rivals P.P Central Lynx, 31 – 30 in the A2 division. The lead swung to and fro before University clinched the final possession. University 3 posted a decisive win over the fiercely aggressive Muppets: 36 – 16. University also collected wins in the Open A1, A3, B2, B3 and B4 divisions.
