Boykett receives VRU award
05 October 2009; Simon Davis

The recent Weary Dunlop Rugby lunch was attended by over 500 guests, including more than 30 Melbourne University Rugby Football Club members. The night’s highlight for the MURFC point of view was to see that Rick Boykett was recognised for his outstanding contribution to community rugby in Victoria over many years. Rick was presented the VRU Distinguished Service Award by VRU President Gary Gray (picture below).

Rick Boykett has been an active and key committee member of the Melbourne University Rugby Club for the past 23 years.

Over this time he has been in the forefront of all the important Club issues and developments.  During most of this time he has played, captained and coached as well as taken on whatever administrative role is the most critical at the time.

He is the volunteer every amateur club needs and few are lucky enough to have, combining enthusiasm and commitment with great administrative ability. He was recently made a life member of the Club; only the fifth person to be recognized this way in the hundred years of the Club’s existence.
