After trailing at every change, Uni Blacks kicked four goals to two in the last quarter to overcome Marcellin, at Marcellin College on Saturday, 13.11.89 to 13.8.86.

Trailing by 20 points at half time, the Blacks’ accuracy in front of goal proved the difference. As the game lifted in intensity, University tightened the screws on Marcellin, forcing them to squander scoring opportunities.

Luke Batten was named best on ground for the victors, while Kieran Prestridge with three goals, was the side’s leading goal kicker.

Uni Blacks now sit in clear second place, with percentage the only thing separating them and top spot on the VAFA B Section ladder.

In other VAFA action, Uni Blues were outclassed by league leaders Collegians, conceding their A Section fixture, in a low scoring affair, by 14 points, 6.8.44 to 8.12.60.

Meanwhile, Blues players Matthew Maltman, Jack Watts and Andrew McArthur represented the VAFA U/19 side in an interstate clash against AFL Queensland’s U/21 side, at Elsternwick Park on Sunday. The added experience of the visitors eventually won out, defeating the Victorians 18.13.121 to 16.10.106.
