Mr. Mark Lockie, Director of Sport and Physical Recreation said that close to 100 applications were received for 2007 scholarships. “Applications for scholarships were certainly of a high standard this year. And in addition to the 23 High Performance and Friends of the Sports Association Scholarships, we were able to award some 50 ScholarFit memberships for use of our strength and fitness facilities. ” A number of our scholarship recipients will be working towards selection for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. If we can support them to achieve their sporting goals while they continue with their studies, then hopefully they can manage their busy lives just that little better and achieve their sporting potential”, said Mr. Lockie. While applications for the High Performance and Friends of the Sports Association Scholarships have closed, student-athletes selected to represent Australia in 2007 are still eligible to apply for Vice-Chancellor’s Elite Athlete Grants.
