2008 SEMESTER 2 Short Courses

Welcome to Melbourne University Sport’s Short Course Program. Our Short Courses are designed to help make a difference to your life, whether it be acquiring or improving your lifestyle, health, fitness or just having fun. Our Short Courses are popular, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

To Enrol
Choose one of the 2 methods below:

In person: Sports Centre Reception.
By mail: Send a completed enrolment form - available on the web at www.sports.unimelb.edu.au - with a cheque, money order, or credit card details to Melbourne University Sport. Due to the popularity of our courses, we cannot guarantee your place when enrolling by mail. Your placement will be confirmed after we receive your enrolment form and payment.
Closing date:   Enrolments for all courses beginning the week of Monday 11 August 2008 close on Friday 8 August 2008.

Cardio Box
Boxing is a great way to get fit. Each week you will gain the benefits of correct fighting techniques and how to train for strength, speed, flexibility and endurance in a professional non-threatening environment. With this course you will be able to take it to the next level and fine tune all the skills which you already posses.

Date:                Wednesday 13 August for 9 weeks

Time:               6:30pm – 7:30pm

MMA Kickboxing (Mixed Martial Arts - Aerostrike®)
Kick, Punch and block your way to fitness and burn up to 1000 calories per session. This course is structured for beginner’s right through to advanced levels. It incorporates various pad work. You will learn the latest Kickboxing techniques from the USA involving partner and bag work. All styles and levels welcome comfortable loose fitting clothes.

Date:                Thursday 14 August for 9 weeks

Time:               12pm - 1pm

Instructor:        Stavros S. Sensei (Master trainer with 25 years’ experience)

 

Advanced Pilates
Pilates (Pi-lah-tees) can help you improve your posture and flexibility and assist in injury prevention and rehabilitation. Pilates is a unique form of simple yet precise body conditioning exercises that focus on strengthening and balancing the muscles of the body, particularly the abdominals and back while concentrating on correct breathing technique. This particular Short Program is suited to the beginner.

Spring Yoga Intensive – Level 2
Take your Yoga to the next level, generate deeper understanding and enhance wellbeing, strength, flexibility and mental clarity. This intensive and progressive course includes head and shoulder stand, dynamic standing posses, back bends and breathing practices. Some Yoga experience is required.

Date:                Monday 15, Tuesday 16 & Thursday 18 September.

Time:               7am – 8:30am

Venue:             MindBody Studio

Cost:                Members: $60, Non members: $75

Adult Swimming Lessons
Our highly qualified and experienced instructors will ensure safe and effective swim classes for beginners who have had little exposure to water right through to experienced competent swimmers. Those who are unfamiliar with recognized strokes, or have had little or no previous lessons, should enroll in the beginner classes. Please contact the Aquatics Coordinator if you would like to be assessed for the intermediate classes.

Date:   From Tuesday 12 August for 9 weeks

Times:  

Tuesdays         Beginners 11am –11:45am,            Intermediate 12:30pm – 1:15pm

                        Beginners 11:45am – 12:30pm

 

Wednesdays     Beginners  6pm – 6:45pm

                        Beginners  6:45 – 7:30pm

 

Thursdays        Beginners 4:30pm – 5:15pm,           Intermediate 5:15pm – 6:00pm

                       

Saturdays         Beginners 9am – 9:45am,                Intermediate 10:30am – 11:15am 

                        Beginners 9:45am – 10:30am

For those wanting more personalized instruction, we have one on one, one on two or one on three Private lessons available. The times available are flexible. If interested, please contact the Aquatics Coordinator on 83446002 or cbamford@unimelb.edu.au  and provide days and times you are available for lessons.

Junior Swim Program
Propulsion Aquatic is now offering a junior learn to swim and coaching program at Melbourne University Sport. Propulsions’ passionate and dynamic team promise to provide an environment where your child is given every opportunity to perform at their best.
